The NYS-Association of Fire Districts, Capital Area
§ Act as a liaison with all the fire districts within the County they represent
§ Communicate regularly with fire districts in your county communicating information to and gathering information from them.
§ Communicate with the Regional Officers and with the State Delegates
Since the Association of Fire Districts of the Capital Area (aka the regional association) covers an area of almost 5,000 square miles it is very difficult to obtain the participation of all of the fire districts in each of the eight counties within the region. The life blood of any organization is the ability to communicate. The directors are the eyes and ears of the association and the communications anchor in the county they represent.
Directors will be placed in nomination by the individual Fire Districts within the county. Nominations shall include a brief statement of desire, willingness to participate, and a statement of support. The nominations for County Director will be reviewed and appointed for a period of three years by the Association’s Capital Area officers.
Each county may have any number of Directors. The Directors would be in regular communication with the fire districts to which they have been assigned to address issues of concern and to obtain information on best practices to share with others. The directors would also bring information from both the regional association and the State Association to the local fire districts.
Directors will meet with the regional Officers quarterly and will provide a information from the county at each meeting. Issues or concerns brought before the regional officers will be addressed regionally or passed on to the State Association as appropriate.
Directors are encouraged to attend quarterly meetings but may be replaced for non participation as determined by the Regional Officers. It is understood that this is a volunteer position and there is no compensation. From time to time, depending on the circumstances there may be reimbursement, which will be made in accordance with state and federal per diem rates or generally accepted standards upon presentation of the appropriate justification and documents. In general the activities of the Directors will be supported by the fire district to which they are elected.
Director’s may be Fire District Board Members, fire district Secretaries, Treasurers or staff members hired by or directly under the control of the elected board of commissioners.
